When you sign up for coverage during a special enrollment period, the date your coverage starts will be different depending on:

• What your qualifying event is
• The date we get your requested documents (application, Account Change Form, or subsidy eligibility form)
• Where you live

For California - Gaining, becoming, or losing a dependent, or death of a subscriber or a dependent

If you gain or become a dependent through marriage or domestic partnership registration:

Your coverage will start on the first day of the month following receipt of your application.

If you gained or became a dependent through the birth of a child, adoption, or placement for adoption or foster care:

Your coverage will start on the date of birth, adoption, or placement for adoption or foster care, or the first day of the month after we receive your application, whichever option you choose.

If you lose a dependent through divorce, legal separation, or dissolution of domestic partnership:

Your coverage will start on the first day of the month following receipt of your application.

If the subscriber or a dependent dies:

Your coverage will start on the first day of the month following receipt of your application.
